DON’T SAY “NO” TO HIGHER EDUCATION

It has been a few weeks since the SPM results came out, and the STPM results have also just been announced. If you’re one of the thousands of recent school-leavers, right now you may be wondering: Where do I go from here? Do I find a job, or pursue further studies?

I’m sure you’ve heard that many among your peers are opting not to study anymore because they want to start earning immediately. Some are also hoping to make it ‘insta-big’ as social media influencers.

What’s your take on this?

Young people are often ambitious, energetic, and full of big dreams, and that’s a wonderful thing. It’s also wonderful that you have so many options to choose from.If you choose to start working,If you choose to start working, I wish you luck and hope you find jobs that will bring you long-term stability and success. But, I also hope you will not close the door to higher studies forever. Why? Because there are at least two big reasons:

1) Education has lifelong value, and

2) It’s possible to work and study at the same time.

As fresh school-leavers, this is your time for learning to be independent, and picking up new knowledge and skills. A job can give you the opportunity to develop yourself, but it cannot give you what is only possible through higher education. After all, the right qualification from the right university can really mean a lot to your future, like better and higher-paying jobs, promotions, and so much more.Secondly, at OUM you can work and study at the same time. OUM conducts fully online, part-time courses: you can do everything from registering to attending classes and sitting for exams on a computer, which means you can work full-time, and still get a degree too.In short, don’t say “No” to higher education. It’s a worthwhile investment, and your future self will thank you for it.
